Eve Teasing? Are you Kidding me?

Frankly,I take offence to this term eve teasing.. Wikipedia describes this term as a euphemism used in India and Pakistan for sexual harassment or molestation of women by men in public... According to me it just makes light of the inexcusable, immoral and lecherous actions of filthy cowardly men who do not leave an opportunity to humiliate women.

Personally, I myself have undergone and have seen such shameful instances and am proud to say that I have stood up against the insensitive and disrespectful perpetrator(s) of such actions. But more often than not, the woman/girl is 'advised' to keep her mouth shut and tolerate such disrespectful actions. What is that prevent women from raising voice against sexual harassment in public? Why are we silent witnesses to the lady standing beside us in a bus or walking on a busy market street getting violated?

Its rampant in India, this kind of public sexual harassment. And sadly, most of us feel that the woman is equally responsible.' The lady in question is judged on her dress, her mannerisms etc if she dares to raise her voice against the pervert who pinches, fondles, or uses sexually flavored filthy language! The people nearby are more interested in seeing the 'tamasha' than intervene and put the perp to task. The sneers, the comments embarrass the lady to no end. Yes there are laws, but more than laws, the attitude of the society, men and women, towards such acts need to be changed.. the term eve teasing should be done away with...

Walking down a street, travelling on a bus, or even partying with friends, the one thought that is always there in the back... How do I prevent myself from being subjected to public sexual harassment? Thus special effort is taken to dodge the hands and legs, dress and act 'properly', etc etc but does it spoil the fun or not! So does being a an average woman mean that I need to behave a certain way to avoid being targeted... No!The fact is that, however you behave, dress and wherever you are, whatever time it is... you are at greater risk of being violated just because you happen to be born as a female.

Am I not a free citizen of this country? Why does being a woman make me less free? Why do I have to tolerate the nonsense of the perverted men who want to assert their non existent superiority or sexuality?

What you have written is so true and I can never understand why is it that we feel humiliated instead of the perpetrators.

Hi TT, (Thoughtless Thinker) I too do think in these lines, but would like to tackle this issue from a different angle. For what matters to me is not some angry rhetoric.(tired of seeing those cuz no solution it is - nor is the lady news reader/reporter ‘s angry gestures while reporting violation) And women’s liberation in India, we are at least one decade behind many western countries ( Kerala better than many states in India). Alas a better ranking country among west, Canada, women conduct slut walk against violations. This really makes me cringe, like how long will my near and dear ones need wait, to walk 100m on road, without being intimidated by a male. (at least one male would block her path with in that distance)
My humble opinion would be to take steps “the secret” way. The secret also known as the law of attraction says, what ever image you hold in your mind, you attract more of it into your life. i.e for example there is a huge difference between an anti-war rally and pro-peace rally. For the word anti war brings the images of atrocities of war into ones mind, where as pro peace would bring wonderful experiences one has during peace times. Anti war rally perpetuates more hatred where as pro peace perpetuates a lot of lovely feelings…
Kindly google ‘The Secret Rhonda Byrne for more.

What I ask is if a perpetrator completely empathizes with a victim, will there be a violation? What can be done in this regard is let women like you write(with the secret in mind i.e no hate messages but facts), for me Shobba De and Sudha Murthy have taught some invaluable things which I would have never learn t on my own about my mother and sister(I mean women basically)!!!. That has helped me take my relations with them to next level which is very fulfilling. In short help perpetrators empathize.

Next am goanna ask you the unthinkable… What if the victim completely empathizes with the perpetrator? Yes I really mean it. That means understanding a hell lot of negative emotions/thoughts/attitudes/ignorance/cowardliness….. Yes once she takes the pain to understand it, she is left with plethora of options to deal with the situations keeping her head held high. This is a very tall order I know. But this is where thinkers/writers like you come in and make it easier for others to do. Yes our women can do it, for they have their brains designed accordingly by mother nature.
